I really think that the rule that states that you have to be a license driver to operate a golf cart without an adult is unnecessary. Not all children drive in such a manner. I believe that it should be 13 and up can operate the golf cart without an adult. A lot of the people that attends the campground agrees. I hate to say it but you might lose some business. I love to go there in the summer. It is a wonderful place. Please consider my request. A concerned citizen

I'm sorry to say but I do think 20 dollars a night is just a bit pricey.

I also think that the rules about the golf cart ordeal is very unnecessary! me and my family aren't going as much for the fact that i have to ride with my daughter every time she wants to ride the golf cart. and that takes time from my vacation for I'm having to ride with her so she won't be so bored.. and concerned camper owner!

I agree with them, the golf cart rule isn't right! I think it should be at least 13 and up to be able to drive. People say that's to young but I think we are more responsible than some of the adults. I mean I have been walking around at night and there will be about 5 adults or more on a golf cart, drunk yelling and making a lot of noise. now you think they should be allowed to drive?!? It is definitely not fair. My parents and I both hate the rule b/c they don't want to have to ride everywhere w/. me. And I know some people that were going to put a camper down there but changed their minds when they heard about the golf cart rule, and a lot are leaving. So it hurts the business and you are losing campers instead of gaining them!!

to all the "golf cart" pro drivers. Let me tell you a story, last year my two year old son was hit by one of these drivers who was only 12 years old. Had an older teenager been with him it may not have happened, kids sometimes do not pay attention where they are driving and act like a golf cart is a toy. Please be careful. I feel 13 is a suitable age but the parent should be responsible for them. thanks

I agree with the last statement it should be 13 i think that a 13 year old is responsible enough that he/ she will look out for others around them and will not hit anything or anybody! Me and my family were going to put a camper at Lanier's but then when a friend of ours told us that my daughter couldn't drive without me with her and she is 14 i said we would put it at white lake instead.. But in the future if the rule does change then we will request putting our camper at Lanier's because i really think it was a great place for the kids and myself to hang out on the weekends!

I don't have a problem with the rule. After all, the purpose of a golf cart really isn't to give a bored teenager something to do. Get a bicycle - no age limits. It's not like the park is so huge you can't get around without a motor-powered vehicle.

I thank that it has been nice to come down to visit without all the golf carts going here and there. I thank that thirteen is a nice age to drive the golf carts, if you thank back and have been a regular visitor to Lanier's you can remember seeing kids that could not hardly touch the gas peddle and only know full speed ahead a golf cart to me should not be thought of as a babysitter. Campers should thank of the safety first and by the way what did the kids do before gold carts? I enjoy coming to Lanier's and so do a lot of my friends so if you don't come to Lanier's just because your kid can't drive a gold cart then your you are missing out on a great place to visit!

My family and I stayed at Lanier's a couple of years ago, and had a great time without golf carts. a thirteen year old has no business driving a golf cart. If they want wheels buy them a motorbike, take them down to north top sail where they can ride. there is a place down there for that. a campground is for just that camping.

I think the rule that u should have a license to drive a golf cart is ridiculous there is no point in it! I think it should be 13/ 14 to drive . And i always thought it was right fun watching the teens ride around with there friends around the camp ground and talk! People always tried to say that the golf carts were in the way of cars but every time i came in and went out they would always stop and let u by or pull over and try to stay out of our way. But the other citizens that there kids don't go with them down there thought it was putting them in danger but for kids that was the only fun thing at Lanier's campground. and to the one that recommended the bikes. I would like to see you try to ride a bike around the camp ground with it 100- and more degrees outside you wouldn't want to do it no more than these kids would. Thanks a concerned citizen.

My family and I just had a trailer down at Lanier's Campground, but we sold it. Just for the others who would want to drive the golf carts around and talk, and use walkie talkies as communication, i think that the rules should change. I think that by having this ruler a license driver with you, will help some kids learn how to drive a golf cart. I would recommend them changing the rules, after you have seen some improvement of the golf cart drivers. Also i loved coming down to Lanier's Campground every few weekends. if there was anything that I could change then i would change the golf cart rules, after you have seen some improvement. Thanx

CALL YOU INSURANCE AGENT AND ASK THEIR OPINION. A GOLF CART IS NOT SOMETHING TO PLAY WITH. IT SHOULD BE TREATED JUST LIKE A MOTOR VEHICLE. YOU SHOULD BE LIC TO DRIVE IT. PUT YOUR CHILDREN ON BIKES AND BE THANKFUL THEY CAN'T DRIVE YET. ENJOY LIFE.

Great website and also great campground. We have a perm site at your campground since last year (2001). Very nice and we enjoy. I know you are tired of reading about the golf carts, but let me say I am so glad you require a licensed driver. I have children too and they are 13 and less. Very good move on your part to make that rule change and many of your campers agree. I also like the fact that you don't put up with drunks, I also like the fact the place is clean. These rules will not cause you to lose business, but will help you to improve the neighbors. Thanks and keep up the good work!!

I'm not a camper at Lanier's but I have a place on the main road leading into Lanier's. I've been there for a year and I've witnessed kids using Golf Carts as 4 wheelers while driving through my neighbors yards and making paths in their grass while they aren't at home. These kids are at the beach, not a race track. What happened to doing beach things at the beach? We don't drive through the campsites or race around your campers. I have no problem with the carts but when property is not respected and parents aren't watching the children, I tend to have a problem with it. My son is 15 and since we aren't campers, he rides a bike in the hot weather and it hasn't harmed him at all. I was 15 once and I didn't have a golf cart and I nearly grew up on Topsail Island (and didn't even have a bike). I didn't die from the heat and it burns calories. Maybe that's why kids are heavy now, they don't do anything physical. Why can't the kids be kids? On another note, the adults (some of them) in the campground are worse in their cars than some kids are on golf carts. If you're reading this and it applies to you, please slow down entering and exiting the campground. I haven't complained to the campground but I will in time. I have kids and a dog that I would like to keep in a healthy state. The vehicles that drive by my place are going fast enough to be on a major highway and I doubt there's a kid below the age of 15 behind the wheel. Adults should know better than to speed on that particular road. I would greatly appreciate it if you would pass the word on to the other campers to please slow down. Our community is a nice one, let's keep it that way. It's not a race track. We're there to relax, what's the hurry? Can't we just learn to slow down a little bit and enjoy life whether on or off the highway? Whether in a golf cart or in a car, everyone should respect others and their property whether in the campground or on the highway. Age has nothing to do with responsibility and I've seen the lack of responsibly both in golf carts and in cars and trucks. Age seems to have little to do with it. It's all about respecting others and being responsible....pass the word please. If people are still speeding by my place next summer, I shall go and voice my concern to Mr. Lanier. We're a bit crowded in our area and we should respect other people and their property. Maybe we should all learn to slow down in life and in our vehicles, whatever they may be and no matter what age we are. Life passes by quickly enough, we shouldn't be in such a rush.

The rule for golf carts is for protection of all residents of Lanier's and should not be abolished just for the fun of some unruly kids. If mom and dad do not have time to look after their children they should hire a babysitter and not send them off to reek havoc about the campground.

I really do want to stay at your campground, but I can not figure out how to get to you. I searched the site and found a lot map, an impressive USGS topo map, A satellite image (nice), but no driving directions. It may be a button that I am overlooking. The maps listed above are nice, but I was thinking more something like...take route 40 South to 215 East for 10 miles, to ..... you know, driving directions.

My wife and I recently obtained a year round site at Lanier's. During July I revisited Surf City for the first time in 25 years. We met a couple that reside across the road from Lanier's and became good friends with them. They told us about a few camper trailers that were for sale. Well needless to say....we got one. She immediately fell in love with it and Topsail Island! It's a great place to be and relax. The campground is clean, the people friendly, and it's easily accessible. I've noticed that most of your guestbook comments are also about the golf carts. I have no problem with the rules. I have three children of my own, but i am also a law enforcement officer. I've seen to many children hurt over my 17 years in the business. I thought the reason to take the kids with you was to spend time with them! I'm sorry for the others that feel the other way, but 13 is not old enough to be responsible for anything! Would you have let them be responsible enough to stay home while you were gone? Don't think so. There's plenty there to do in the area without having to worry about a golf cart. Well enough of that. Just wanted to say GOOD JOB on taking care of a nice place! See ya soon! REAL SOON!!!
